DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults.\n\n \n\nLearn how to respond with the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE):\n\nA ssess for risk of suicide or harm.\n\nL isten nonjudgmentally.\n\nG ive reassurance and information.\n\nE ncourage appropriate professional help.\n\nE ncourage self-help and other support strategies\n\n \n\nIn this Blended\, Adult format of the course\, we will cover:\n\n\n	Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.\n	Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.\n	How to interact with a person in crisis.\n	How to connect a person with help.\n	Expanded content on trauma\, substance use and self-care.\n\n\n \n\nBeing a Blended format\, this means all attendees are required to complete a 2-hour\, self-paced\, online course prior to the live\, full day\, instructor led- course. In order to receive the certificate as a Mental Health First Aider\, participants will also need to complete post work\, which includes a brief exam following the course. Those who successfully complete the course will receive their certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing\, which is valid for 3-years.\n\n \n\nAttendees are encouraged to bring a packed lunch to the in person class. There is a self check out snack bar on site with beverages and light fare (limited sandwiches\, yogurt\, chips\, candy).\n\n \n\nClass is limited to 30 participants. Registration will remain open through November 10 or until the class is full. To host a course for your community group or organization\, please contact collab@mhconn.org for more information.
