Civil War Soldiers - Vincenza A. Uccello Lecture

Art Museum at the University of Saint Joseph hosts a Vincenza Uccello Lecture on Civil War Soldiers

West Hartford resident, Paul Cimbala, will present a lecture titled Civil War Soldiers: Why They Joined, Why They Fought, What They Learned, and How They Shaped America's Future in conjunction with the Art Museum’s current exhibition A House Divided: Photography and the Civil War. Dr. Cimbala is Professor Emeritus of History at Fordham University, The Bronx, New York. He is the author of numerous books, articles, and papers, including The Freedmen’s Bureau: Reconstructing the American South after the Civil War (2005), Soldiers North and South: The Everyday Experiences of the Men who Fought America’s Civil War (2010), and Veterans North and South: The Transition from Soldier to Civilian after the American Civil War (2015). Most recently he edited The Historian's Red Badge of Courage (2020), an anthology that examines Stephen Crane's novel as a lens for understanding social and cultural history, particularly the American Civil War.
